Since launching from a basement in Champaign, Illinois, in 1985, Horizon Hobby has grown into a global hub for RC enthusiasts, fondly known as the "Disneyland of RC hobbies." Their Tower Hobbies brand is recognized for standout customer service and enthusiast support, helping set industry standards in remote-controlled innovation.

Objective

When Horizon Hobby's newly appointed VP of Growth, already familiar with 64labs from a successful composable transformation at Duluth Trading, joined the team, he recognized the significant ROI potential from a similar approach. He commissioned 64labs to rapidly execute a composable storefront project aimed at driving immediate revenue improvements, while also reshaping the customer experience for Horizon and Tower Hobbies brands. With a highly engaged and passionate customer base, Horizon Hobby wanted a modern, flexible CMS that would empower their merchandising teams to rapidly publish dynamic, engaging content, fostering deeper relationships with their customers post-launch.

Solution

64labs successfully executed Horizon Hobby’s ambitious brand reorganization and standardization across both Horizon and Tower Hobbies sites. Leveraging the Composable Storefront approach, the project immediately delivered significant performance improvements, including reducing bounce rates by approximately 25% and streamlining critical user journeys by 15-50%. Crucially, the launch stabilized revenue streams at a time when global economic uncertainty around tariffs posed a significant risk for Horizon, demonstrating the immediate strategic value and agility provided by a modern, composable architecture.
